Oven to Table: Nontoxic, Ethical, Sustainable, Locally Made, Artisanal Cookware.

When I make an “oven to table” wood-fired pottery piece that I enjoy eating a delicious oven-cooked meal out of, I feel a lot of joy knowing that I have made a piece that is nontoxic and ethically made. Before creating ceramics, I wanted to find ways to answer some important questions that are present in the world and around me. Some of the thoughts and questions I asked myself were:

  • How do I make sure that there are no toxins leaching into food by making pottery that is natural, durable, beautiful, timeless, and nontoxic—creating a piece that can go back into the earth harmlessly if it is ever broken?

  • How do I close the gap between the inefficiencies and waste of products coming from afar by making them locally?

  • Closing the door on the mass production of dishware, ovenware, and plastics that are commonly purchased and used and that have been produced by major companies by way of human trafficking, child labor, and slave labor.

  • How to encourage making meaningful connections and being a part of building a local community with local artisans in order to heal the damage done by mass production and mass consumerism.

  • How do I make a piece that serves many purposes? “Oven to table,” in this case, a dish that is a pot—for ease and less “doing the dishes.”

  • How to remove the need for plastic and toxic materials that wreak havoc on the health of people, animals, and the world.

Making pottery that provides answers to these questions is important to me and our family. On our homestead, I am so pleased to be able to come closer to closing the loop on these topics by growing and raising our own food and making oven-to-table pottery that allows us to build a beautiful community, eat well locally, and come closer to helping heal ourselves and the world. Thank you for your interest in our handmade pottery made in San Marcos, Texas, located 35 miles from Austin and 45 miles from San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country.
