One of the best gift to give a special person is a handcrafted piece of wood fired pottery. Its beauty plus functionality is unmatched- my opinion. Functional art!. All ingredients to make this piece comes from the earth. This piece was fired at high temperatures, that reached over 2000 degrees F, for a few days. Harvested some of our banana leaves , learning to make a traditional Vietnamese dish with our family friends, bánh tét! Growing banana plants are not only useful for their fruit. I am getting ready for another wood firing! Some new work will be coming out soon! It’s fun how this beautiful turmeric flower, that we grow, contrasts in one of my wood fired ceramic bowls from last season. Turmeric flowers have a vegetal, subtly sweet, and lightly peppery flavor suited for fresh and cooked preparations. In natural medicines of Southeast Asia, Turmeric flowers are consumed after childbirth to heal the mother’s body and are believed to be an anti-aging ingredient. Like other flowers, the blooms may be a source of fiber to stimulate the digestive tract and vitamin C to strengthen the immune system. One of the coolest parts of schooling our children is the flexibility of taking on fun projects that merge into our lifestyle. One of the biggest projects we’ve taken on as a family is our permaculture homestead. In this video we are harvesting and preparing ginger for medicine, tea, soap, and today’s lunch. Next time we will be harvesting ginger to make ginger beer.
