Teas & Tinctures Workshop Recap
On May 17th, I welcomed a wonderful group of people to my homestead, Sustainable 626, for our Teas & Tinctures workshop. It was a warm, peaceful day—perfect for gathering in the garden to learn, share, and reconnect with the plants that support our health.
We started right here in my permaculture food forest, where I introduced everyone to some of my favorite medicinal herbs: mullein, yarrow, oregano, wormwood, plantain, and comfrey. I talked about how each plant is grown in my garden system—how they fit into the ecosystem, how they support soil and pollinators, and how I use them for teas, infusions, and salves. The garden was buzzing with life, and it felt good to slow down and notice the plants with fresh eyes.
We enjoyed tea in the garden—freshly brewed lemongrass infusion—and had time to relax and chitchat beneath a canopy of trees and grapevines, with flowers blooming all around us. It was one of those moments that feels simple but stays with you.
Later, we visited Kari Soto at her home. Kari is a board-certified naturopath and a generous, grounded teacher. She guided everyone through making their own herbal infusions and introduced us to the process and purpose behind tincture making. Before we left, each participant was gifted comfrey and beeswax to take home and make a healing salve of their own.
We also shared a meal that featured duck eggs from my flock and ingredients harvested from the garden—nothing fancy, just nourishing food and real conversation.
This workshop was such a joy to host. I love seeing people light up when they connect with the plants, the earth, and each other. Thank you to everyone who came with open hearts, and to Kari for welcoming us into her home and sharing her knowledge so freely.
